Hepatica — Design System Workbench

AI companion for fatty liver disease (NAFLD / MASH). Photo food scanner (per-meal liver-risk rating) + lab interpreter (ALT / AST / GGT / FIB-4 OCR) + AI Coach (DeepSeek V3 + RAG on AASLD / AGA / EASL) + multi-lab trend dashboard + Recovery Mode for the sober community + doctor PDF. 6 cohorts, ~135M adults across 5 markets, $162M SAM. Sibling of Cysta AI — this workbench reuses its module pattern. Seven modules below — Design System · JTBD · Roadmap · Tab architecture · Components & stack · Engagement loop · App Store screenshots. Hepatica · «Clinical» — design system locked

Teal (#2D7B7E) reads lab-grade and trustworthy — the liver organ as a teal→gold gradient; warm gold (#D4A574) carries premium-conversion CTAs; cool off-white (#EEF3F2) keeps it clinically confident without going cold. The two alternatives and the 6-cohort consilium that led here are kept in the collapsed Decision archive inside Module 1.

Doctor said I have fatty liver. What can I actually eat?
Start by swapping refined carbs and sugary drinks for whole grains, vegetables and unsaturated fats — a Mediterranean-style pattern has the strongest evidence for reducing liver fat. Coffee (2–3 cups) is also protective. Snap a photo of any meal and I'll rate its liver risk.AASLD 2023 · MASLD lifestyle management

ALT 85, AST 62. Is fatty liver going to kill me?
That's an understandable fear — but for most people the answer is no. Around 75% of fatty liver never progresses to serious scarring, and at your stage it's often reversible with weight loss and diet. Elevated ALT is a signal to act, not a verdict. Decision — 🔒 locked B · Clinical (2026-05-20)

The consilium recommended A · Botanical (30 / 35). The founder lock went to B · Clinical — a deliberate override. The two largest single cohorts, Nick (25%) and Pete (20%), both scored B highest: they buy on medical authority and lab-grade trust. Rachel — the premium-WTP cohort on a $40K/yr drug — ties B at the top. Together that is 53% of audience leaning clinical, and it covers the highest-revenue cohort.

Trade-off accepted: Botanical's non-judgmental warmth was the safer call for Robert (alcohol stigma) and the wellness cohorts. Mitigation — B keeps the warm-severity verdict triad (no clinical red) and a calm dark night-Coach, so the clinical palette never tips into cold or alarmist; Recovery Mode copy for Robert stays hopeful regardless of palette.

3.2 · Feature consilium — 4 rounds

Round 1 · cohort demand

All 6 cohorts score each feature 0–5

Each cohort scored every feature on «how much do I need this», audience-weighted (Nick .25 · Greta .15 · Pete .20 · Rachel .08 · Patricia .15 · Robert .17). Pure demand ranks Lab Interpreter (4.50), Multi-Lab Dashboard (4.47) and AI Coach (4.25) at the top.

But demand alone buries two category-defining features: Alcohol Tracker (2.96) and FibroScan (2.41) score low because each serves a single anchor cohort — yet they are the highest-conversion features for Robert and Rachel and they are pure category whitespace. Round 1 demand alone would mis-build the roadmap → re-vote.

Round 2 · strategic re-vote + revision

Founder + ASO + engineering re-score Conversion · Moat · Build

Every feature re-scored 0–10 on Conversion (drives trial→paid), Moat (category whitespace / differentiation) and Build (10 = fastest, most sibling reuse). Revisions logged this round:

Why B wins — and revises the draft

B · 4-tab + «+Log» FAB locked (4.40 / 5). The centre +Log FAB is the Loveiko logging-DNA — Cysta AI, JabWell and Salvora all converged on it. Hepatica's logging is the highest-frequency in the family: a meal photo at every meal, a daily drink log for Robert, lab scans, med doses. A one-tap capture beats a buried tab.

Candidate A burns a whole tab on Food when food-scan is the primary +Log action; Nick still gets food-first via the cohort-aware Today dashboard. C's vague "Track" tab tested worst across every cohort. ⚠️ This revises PRODUCT_DESIGN.md's 5-tab draft → 4-tab + FAB (logged in DECISIONS.md D10).

Centre FAB +Log = the primary daily ritual. One tap → choose meal photo / drink / lab scan / medication / symptom → 3-tap save. Each capture flows into Today + Coach context + the relevant tab. SF Symbols: house.fill · bubble.left.fill · plus · chart.line.uptrend.xyaxis · testtube.2.

Order revised 2026-05-21 — Today · Coach · «+Log» · Progress · Labs. The locked architecture (4-tab + FAB) is unchanged; only the left-to-right order moved. Re-evaluated by interaction frequency: Coach is a near-daily surface (and the 2 a.m. anxiety check), so it was promoted to slot 2; Labs is consulted roughly quarterly when a new panel lands, so it moved to the calm outer edge. Компоненты и стек · ~85% sibling reuse

Which Loveiko siblings Hepatica is built from, the reusable component inventory, and the full tech stack — benchmarked against Cysta AI. Hepatica ships fast because ~85% of the codebase is ported, not written.

5.1 · Sibling reuse map

Hepatica is the next app in the Loveiko health-tracking cohort. It inherits proven engineering from four siblings — only the liver domain layer is new.

🥇 foodAcidWise~85%

Photo food scanner ports nearly intact — AVFoundation capture, the Vision analysis pipeline and the 3-level rating engine. Acidity rating → liver-risk rating is a prompt + threshold swap.

Reused: camera · Vision pipeline · risk-badge · daily-score accumulator. New: liver-risk prompt (saturated fat / fructose / ultra-processed / alcohol traces).

🥇 labs + patternCysta AIlineage

The lab-interpreter lineage — Vision OCR, multi-page accumulator, confidence badges, trend graphs. Plus the AI Coach RAG pattern, the +Log FAB tab scaffold, the RevenueCat paywall, and this workbench / consilium method.

Reused: Lab Interpreter · RAG Coach · verdict triad · paywall · workbench. New: liver lab fields (ALT/AST/GGT/FIB-4) vs hormone panel.

🥈 medsJabWell~70%

Medication tracker — multi-medication, dose, adherence streak, side-effect log. GLP-1 tracking ports verbatim for the Greta cohort. Plateau detector → fibrosis-stagnation alert.

Reused: med-chip · adherence streak · side-effect log · 7-slot paywall. New: Rezdiffra dose model.

🥉 journalSalvora~60%

Trigger correlator → alcohol / diet trigger log. Severity pill, the 5-screen onboarding kit, the doctor PDF exporter. Folik contributes the photo-compare slider and the consilium methodology.

Reused: trigger-card · severity-pill · onboarding kit · doctor PDF. New: GGT recovery timeline (Hepatica original).

5.2 · Component inventory

Reusable UI components and where each is ported from. Two components are Hepatica originals — the sober-recovery timeline and the FibroScan stage chip.

Core loop & engagement · ⭐ recommended «Proof-projection loop»

What brings a fatty-liver user back daily when the biology only moves once a quarter. A 3-candidate core-loop consilium, the daily loop diagram, the streak + rescue mechanic, the «Hepatica Noticed» insight engine, the milestone system, the weekly recap, and the renewal-projection design. Status: ⭐ recommended — awaiting founder lock (then logged to DECISIONS.md).

6.1 · The engagement problem

A liver app has a structural retention problem before a line of code is written: the biology is too slow to feel. A blood panel moves once a quarter; ALT does not visibly change between Tuesday and Wednesday. The loop's whole job is to manufacture honest daily momentum across the 90-day gap between draws.

The failure mode — a quarterly utility. If Hepatica only surfaces lab data, the user opens it the day results land and forgets it for three months — that is a utility, not a habit, and it churns before the annual renewal. LiverPal shipped exactly that: a generic feed with no daily reason to return — 4 reviews, no traction. Hepatica must give the user something real to do each day and something visible to watch grow between blood tests, without faking biology or making health claims.

6.2 · Core-loop consilium — 3 candidates, 6 cohorts vote

#CandidateThe daily reason to open the app
ALab-centric loopApp opens to the lab panel; the user returns when the next blood test lands. Honest, but no daily pull — a quarterly utility.
BDaily-log loopOpen → +Log a meal / drink / dose → streak ticks. Builds a habit (Loveiko FAB DNA) — but logging without visible payoff plateaus fast.
C ⭐Proof-projection loopOpen → Today hero chart redraws → one cohort action → streak + score nudge → «Hepatica Noticed» insight 2–4×/wk → weekly recap → milestone → projection toward the next band.

Why C is recommended

C · Proof-projection loop — 4.85 / 5, recommended (not yet locked). It keeps B's daily logging habit but adds the layer B is missing: every logged action visibly feeds a chart that proves the user's job-to-be-done is happening. Logging is the input; the redrawing JTBD chart, the «Hepatica Noticed» insight and the projection are the payoff — that payoff is what converts trial→paid and what makes a user renew mid-trajectory.

A scored lowest with the two cohorts whose entire reason for the app is watching a number change — Robert (2) and Patricia (2) — confirming a lab-only loop churns the highest-intent users. B is a real habit but plateaus: a streak with no proof is a chore. C is the only candidate every cohort scored 4+.

⭐ C · Proof-projection loop — recommended for lock A · archived B · folded into C as the «log» step

6.3 · The daily loop

Candidate C unpacked into the six beats a user moves through each day. The whole cycle is ≤ 30 seconds on a normal day — friction is the enemy of a chronic-condition habit.

3

4🔥
Momentum
Streak ticks, the Liver Score nudges, the chart gains a point. Small, true, visible — momentum the biology can't give yet.
5
Insight
2–4×/week «Hepatica Noticed» fires a cited correlation → tap opens Coach pre-seeded with it. The wow beat.
6📅
Recap & milestone
Sunday delivers a weekly recap; milestones fire when earned. The week gets a verdict, the month gets a marker.
Tomorrow the chart is one day longer and the streak is one higher — the proof compounds whether or not the next blood test has happened yet.

6.4 · Streak & rescue mechanic

The streak is the loop's spine — but on a health app it must be a consistency signal, never a punishment. One missed day can't feel like failure to a fear-prone NAFLD user, and a relapse can't reset a sober count to zero.

🔥
47
day streak
1 rescue ready

Last 14 days · the gold square is a rescued day · outlined square is today.

Rescue mechanic. One rescue per rolling 14-day window: miss a day and the streak holds — the user just logs within the next 48h to «catch» it. No shame copy, no broken-streak red. Relapse handling for Robert is separate and explicit: a slip is logged honestly, the sober count adjusts, and the framing stays non-judgmental («One day doesn't erase 46 — here's what the research says about your liver»).

CohortWhat the streak tracksWhy this is the right daily action
🍷 NickMeals scannedEach scan compounds the daily Liver-Friendly Score — his JTBD is «what do I eat», so the streak is the diet.
💉 GretaGLP-1 dose + weigh-inAdherence + weight are the inputs to her «is Ozempic working on my liver» proof chart.
🍔 PeteMeal + glucose logMetabolic consistency — the two markers he needs moving together.
💊 RachelRezdiffra doseAdherence at streak-level is exactly what the trial protocol — and her insurance story — assume.
🧬 PatriciaSupplement + meal logInositol + liver-friendly meals tracked across the cycle she already watches.
🍺 RobertSober daysThe streak is the recovery — the single most emotionally loaded number in the whole app.
Compliance — streaks are the only sanctioned gamification. Per the locked anti-patterns (Module 1), Hepatica ships no XP, levels, or leaderboards. Streaks survive that rule only because they map to two clinically meaningful behaviours — sobriety and medication adherence — and are framed factually as consistency, not as a game to «win». No competitive ranking, no loss-aversion red.

6.5 · «Hepatica Noticed» — the insight engine

The wow beat of the loop. 2–4×/week an on-device engine scans the user's logged data against their lab trend, finds one honest correlation, and surfaces it as a banner. Tap → Coach opens pre-seeded with it as a question. Long-press → saved to the insight journal. Dismiss → it resurfaces in 7 days if nothing newer fires.

🍺 Robert«GGT down 90 since Day 1 sober — consistent with the AASLD post-abstinence recovery timeline.»AASLD
Compliance — every insight is cited and hedged. «Hepatica Noticed» never states a diagnosis or a guarantee. Each insight names a real source and uses observational framing — «consistent with», «tends to», «a pattern worth noting» — never «you have NAFLD», «cured», or «reversed». Insights describe the user's own logged data; they never predict an individual clinical outcome.

6.6 · Milestone system

Where the streak rewards consistency, milestones reward arrival — 12 of them, 6 universal and 6 cohort-specific. They fire at most once per session as a banner, and each is written as a factual observation, never a claim.

Robert
«Your liver at Day 30 / 60 / 90 …» series

Robert's milestone is itself a series — an evidence-based education card at each recovery marker. It teaches the published recovery timeline; it never promises the user a personal result.

YOUR LIVER · DAY 90
90 days sober
By around 90 days of sustained abstinence, GGT has typically returned toward the normal reference range and ALT is trending down. Your own GGT is now 95 U/L — keep logging to see where your next blood test lands.
▸ AASLD · alcohol-associated liver disease · educational
Compliance. Milestone copy reports observed facts about the user's logged data and cites population-level recovery timelines as education («GGT has typically returned toward…»). It never says the user is «cured» or «healed», and never attaches a guaranteed outcome to a date.

6.7 · Weekly recap

Sunday gives the week a verdict. The recap surfaces as the Today hero card on Sunday and as a pull-down on any other day — three honest stats, one plain-English insight, and a single forward focus for the week ahead.

Weekly recap · May 11–17
Your steadiest week yet

3
insights
Your GGT trend stayed inside the typical recovery band all week — Day 47 sober and the curve is holding its slope.
▸ Next week's focus — log your Day-60 blood draw when it's back so the projection can re-fit.

The recap is deliberately quiet — no confetti. Its job is to make a slow-moving condition feel like it had a measurable week, and to hand the user one concrete next step. «Next week's focus» is cohort-specific (Nick → a scan-streak target · Rachel → her FibroScan reauth window · Robert → the next GGT draw).

6.8 · Renewal projection

The loop has to do one more thing: make the value obvious before the annual renewal date. Two mechanics, both honest, both designed so the user is mid-journey — not finished — when the renewal prompt arrives.

(a) The projected band on the JTBD chart

Every cohort's Today hero chart (full treatment in Module 7) plots the user's actual marker against a shaded typical-recovery band drawn from published guidance, plus a dashed «if the trend continues» projection. At renewal time the user can see they have not yet reached the band — but the dashed line shows they're on track to. They renew to be there for it.

Robert · GGT recovery — actual vs typical band
Illustrative. The band is the published population recovery range — not a personal prediction.
AASLD upper ref · ~50 U/L 240 95 · today projected ~Day 115 Day 0 Day 160
logged GGT projection typical band AASLD ref

(b) The milestone roadmap

A horizontal track of future markers, visible from Day 1 but unlocking only on arrival. The user can always see the next reward — and the ones past the renewal date — which makes «keep going» concrete rather than abstract.

Day 1
Baseline GGT logged
Day 30
First re-test window
Day 60
ALT trend forming
🔒
Day 180
6-month liver check
🔒
Day 365
1 year — full panel
Compliance — the projection is a reference range, not a promise. The dashed line and band visualise the published typical population recovery range with the user's own logged data laid over it — the same principle as the P0 GGT-recovery-timeline feature. Hepatica never renders «your liver will be normal on [date]». Copy stays conditional («if this trend continues», «typically nears»), the «Reverse fatty liver» tagline never appears beside a dated outcome, and a disclaimer strip sits on the chart surface.

6.9 · Recommended for lock

Module 6 — ready for founder review. The consilium recommends the Proof-projection loop (C, 4.85/5) as Hepatica's core engagement model: a ≤30-second daily loop (open → act → momentum → insight → recap), a non-shame streak with a 14-day rescue, the cited «Hepatica Noticed» insight engine, 12 milestones, the Sunday recap, and a renewal projection built on published reference bands. Nothing here is locked yet — on your ⭐ approval it goes to DECISIONS.md and the screen modules build the Today screen and the per-cohort JTBD charts on top of it.

Module 7 — ready for founder review. One universal 8-frame gallery — a single set served to every cohort and every ad campaign — ordered by pain × JTBD × cohort size: food scanner → lab interpreter → GGT recovery → trend dashboard → AI Coach → GLP-1 proof → doctor PDF → paywall. Frames 1–3 are the thumbnail-visible killers. Every frame is worked through with a headline, ≤3 on-frame bullets and a single hero illustration; all copy is compliance-checked.
