The estimate is an AI approximation based on photo analysis. Lighting, angle, hair length, and styling can affect it significantly. The most reliable signal is the relative trend over multiple consistent scans (same lighting, same angles), not any single number. Folik shows a confidence score with each scan.
The Coach answers from an on-device knowledge base (~11MB) of published guidelines and peer-reviewed extracts: AAD clinical guidelines, ISHRS hair restoration guidelines, FDA drug labels (minoxidil, finasteride, dutasteride), Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic patient guides, Endocrine Society guidelines (for hormonal context), and 50+ PubMed studies. Every reply includes a tap-able citation. The Coach refuses to answer if the knowledge base doesn't have grounding for your question — no hallucinations.
No. The Coach explains how published guidelines describe treatments (e.g., "FDA-approved minoxidil 5% topical applied twice daily for male pattern hair loss") but does not prescribe, recommend a specific dose, or replace a dermatologist visit. Always confirm with a qualified prescriber.
Hair loss patterns differ by sex hormone profile (Norwood scale for male pattern, Ludwig scale for female pattern). The persona lanes (Linda doctor-dismissed, Sarah postpartum, Maya stress shed, etc.) personalize Coach prompts and treatment relevance. You can also Skip — that shows the full lane list.
Yes. Photos, treatment log, chat history, and analysis results are stored locally on your device. Photos are sent to our AI provider for analysis only and are not retained after processing. We do not collect personal information, do not use advertising SDKs, and do not run analytics platforms. See the full Privacy Policy.
No. The 5-angle scan is for hair analysis (density, stage). Front and side angles incidentally contain your face, but Folik does not perform face recognition, biometric template extraction, identity matching, or any facial analytics. See Privacy Policy §1.2.

iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Folik → Cancel Subscription. Access continues to the end of the current billing period. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
If you reinstalled Folik or switched devices: open Settings inside the App → Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID you used originally. RevenueCat will verify your subscription with Apple.
Photos and treatment data live on your device — they're included in your normal iCloud device backup if enabled. A dedicated export-to-PDF (Doctor Visit Brief) is on the post-V1 roadmap. For now, you can take screenshots of your timeline and density chart to share with your dermatologist.
Optional. With your explicit permission, Folik reads body weight and body composition (read-only) to correlate rapid weight loss with telogen effluvium patterns. We never write to your Health database. You can revoke access in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Folik.
The free Norwood / Ludwig Calculator and your existing photo journal work offline. New scans, AI Coach answers, and login-related actions require internet. The on-device citation knowledge base does not need a connection.
